Why do they report power outages on TV?

So, I have been getting between 20 - 25 emails a day telling me that I have won some sort of out of country lottery, inherited money from a widow in Nigeria, or some sort of similar scam for weeks now. At first, I thought it was because of some emails I had sent to out-of-country business, but I am starting to change my idea...

According to my stat counter, I have had almost a continuous presence from Nigeria over the past few weeks. Coincidence?

I am wondering if any other bloggers out there have been experiencing similar issues?
